Insiders on S2: sprint of a small group

Stage 2: Žalec – Ormož, 163.1 km. A small group sprint is expected in Ormož, but due to the ascent to Jerusalem, the forecast is bleak – is it possible that only a couple of cyclists will race for the victory?

Bogdan Fink, organizing director: "From Žalec, the capital of brewing and hop growing, we will go to Ormož, which will celebrate the 750th anniversary of the first historical mention of the city just one day later. After passing Rogaška Slatina we have a 4th category climb to Stoperce, then intermediate sprints in Majšprerk, Kidričevo and Videm pri Ptuju. After that we to to Haloze for the first time in the history of the race. After the first arrival in Ormož we go to Jeruzalem for another 4th category climb, and back to Ormož. A sprint of a group is expected, but the last climb is quite demanding in terms of height and surprises are also possible."

Luka Mezgec, Team Jayco-AlUla: "I also think that we will have a larger group sprint. I don't know the last climb yet and I will have to look at it, and then let the team know what it is like and what we can expect. This climb will surely decide the size of the group that will compete for the stage victory."

Domen Novak, UAE Team Emirates: "I agree, on this stage we will almost certainly see a small group sprint. Luka Mezgec is also good on such stages and, in my opinion, is the favorite to win the stage."
