Slovenian cyclists in the Fight for Green

Slovenian cyclists in the Fight for Green

In the world of cycling, it is always a great honor to wear the leader's jersey, and the goal of every cyclist is to wear it, even if only for one day. Tour of Slovenia is of course no exemption.

Following the example of the Tour de France, many races have chosen the yellow as the color of the leader’s jersey and the same was true also for the Tour of Slovenia until 2017, when the organizer, Adria Mobil Cycling Team, replaced it with the green color, which illustrates and symbolizes the green Slovenian landscape and at the same time the fight for a clean, green environment (#FightForGreen). The honor of being the first to wear a green leader’s jersey at the Tour of Slovenia went to Irishman Sam Bennett, who comes from an equally green country.

So far, 142 stages have been completed in the Tour of Slovenia, whereas 61 cyclists, including 21 Slovenes, wore the leader's jersey. Robert Pintarič wore it for the longest period, as many as 8 days in different years, Mervar Boštjan was in the leader's jersey for 6 days, and the Italian Stefano Giraldi wore it one day less.
