Luka Mezgec to lead Orica-Scott

Australian WorldTour team Orica-Scott is already familiar with Slovenian roads. It was already racing Slovenian »Tour« in 2012, 2013, 2014 and lastly in 2016. 2016 was also the most successful year for them in Slovenia – their rider Jack Haid was second overall, only one who beat him was Estonian Rein Taaramäe.
Orica won five stages of Tour of Slovenia in four years. In 2012 Daryl Impey won the stage in Metlika. Svein Tuft was fastest on opening stage of 2013 edition, on the time trial in Ljubljana. Burt Lancester won the last stage of the same race, just couple of days later in Novo mesto. Michael Matthews was fastest on the opening stage in 2014. Jens Keukeleire (pictured) continued good karma with opening stages last year.
Australian team took at least one stage victory every time they raced in Slovenia, and there is not reason not to include them on the list of favorites also for 2017 edition. Slovenian cyclist Luka Mezgec is first on the list of their riders for the race. Usually whoever’s name is next to number one is also a team leader for the race and we can just hope it will be the same in this case.
Luka Mezgec was already racing on Tour of Slovenia in the past, but he’s still waiting for his first stage victory.
Team Orica-Scott already won 19 races in 2017 and has 5221 points. According to UCI rankings this is currently 4th best team in the world!
